Let’s overcome procrastination. I was an extreme procrastinator. (Using past tense because I am not speaking that in my life, I’ve left it behind!) My mind will start thinking about doing something, I get excited about it, and start overthinking it. So, at this point I’m overwhelmed by something I haven’t even started yet(SMH), and start doing everything except what I was supposed to be doing initially. Whew ok… that’s procrastination!
“Welcome to a transformative journey where we unravel the secrets to unlocking our productive potential. In this exploration, we’ll dive into strategies for overcoming procrastination and paving the way to success. Trying to embark on a path of self-discovery and discipline. The time to start is now!”
3 Steps to Overcome Procrastination
- Write down everything I’m thinking about instead of just keeping it in my head. This is helping to avoid procrastination, because once I write down everything or put it in my notes app, I can chose one task at a time instead of having this big thing or lists of things to do and don’t end up completing Anything at all.
- Create a morning routine. I’m an early morning person even when I don’t have to be up, most of the time I’m still up early. (doesn’t have to be extensive, I have a very simple one for now just to create the habit of routine) here is a blog post I wrote on a simple morning routine.
- Create small habits. This is as simple as writing down just a couple of things I would like to accomplish that day, because long list are sort of discouraging to me. Get in the habit of doing those things and keep building on these small habits. Here is an awesome book on building effective habits.
BONUS: Time Blocking and knowing what I need to be doing next, planning ETC. The planner I am using is the Top 3 Notebook by Erin on Demand.
EXAMPLE: If I need to be somewhere at a certain time tomorrow: I figure out when I’m going to need be there, what time will I need to get up, and what time I should be walking out the door to get there on time.
“I am NOT a Procrastinator”
Those are the things that I am working on right now on my journey to overcome procrastination. I still do procrastinate sometimes, by all means I don’t have it all together just yet. I’m much better than I used to be.
The first thing was to Acknowledge, then create habits and a plan that works for me! Here is a Blog post I wrote with some motivational quotes that also are very helpful to me.
