What is the Daniel Fast?
Yes, I started my 2022 with The 21 day Daniel Fast! The Daniel Fast is a process of Fasting and Praying to get closer to God. On the Fast you’re restricting foods we enjoy like anything with sugar, meat, coffee, tea and anything that is not natural. Pretty much just eating Fruits and veggies. The only drink you can have is water, you can have pressed juices with no added ingredients, just fruits and veggies. During your Fasting you are Praying, getting into the word of God. When it get’s hard, (because it will) you have to Pray, devotion, Journal and talk to God. Here is one of the resources I used when doing research on the Daniel Fast.
My reasons for doing the Fast
I have heard of the Daniel Fast before but never did research on it or thought about participating in it before this year. A little before the New Year I was on Instagram one day and ran across @Cupofconsuela (love her content BTW) talking about the Daniel Fast and how it changed her life in all aspects, so, I did some research on it. After researching and reading her post, I thought, this is just what I need. I Prayed about it and made up my mind that I was going to do it and stick to it.
My Reasons for doing the Daniel Fast are:
- To get Closer to God and receive the Blessings he has for my life.
- To get Healthier and be more mindful of what I put in my body.
- Teach myself to be consistent: I knew that if I could stick to this for 21 days, Praying, eating healthy, reading my Devotionals, Journaling that, I could be consistent with anything. (I’m letting go of procrastination)
- Putting God before my desires
- Get deeper into my Faith
Starting the year with this 21 day Daniel Fast was the best! I’ve been way more consistent with doing my devotional daily, My eating habits and the way I feed my body, mind and spirit have changed. I feel my thoughts have changed for the better.
I’m not saying that the fast will be easy because, it will not. There will be days where you are feeling hungry, having cravings for things you love but, don’t give up. I love to drink Iced Coffee every morning and I loved sweets so not having those were hard for me but, I thought about the real reason for sacrificing.
Encouragement
During those hard times Pray, Pray, Pray. Talk to God Everyday. Here is the devotional I used:https://fastlikedaniel.com you can access this devotional in the Holy Bible app under Plans. It is called “Fast Like Daniel” Based on the book by Scott Williams.
Make sure you are reading your devotional, if not the one I suggested there are many others. Do your own research and make sure this is something you want to do. I know that God is working in my life and things are changing for the better!
Foods/recipes to eat and try while on the Daniel Fast
Here is a Daniel Fast cookbook by @cupofconsuella on IG and she also has recipes on her page.
Fruit and Vegetable smoothies: in mine I used dates for sweetness and blended them with these smoothie bags.
Ate fresh fruits daily, my go to fruits were: Bananas, strawberries, oranges and apples.
Eat nuts without any added ingredients other than salt or sea salt. (pecans, walnuts etc..)
Fresh veggies, they can be cooked and you can use some seasoning, garlic and onions for taste.(research what you can use)
Veggie burgers: these can be found at different stores, here is an example.
Drink lots of water
Drink pressed juices with no added sugars (make sure they are all natural)
Just look up different Daniel Fast approved recipes, purchase the cookbook. Have fun with your meals and you will be amazed at what you come up with daily and you will feel great Spiritually, physically and mentally.
