If you’re new to Natural, transitioning or stuck in your journey just trying to see what tools you should have, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve been through all of these phases and still on my journey. It is not hard, natural hair should be simple and fun, not frustrating. Get your pen and paper or phone ready so you will have your list the next time you’re shopping!
This Brush was such a life changer for detangling my natural hair. I tried some other brushes that didn’t work for my hair. I always use it while I have my conditioner in my hair and yes you have to try it! Best hair tool ever!

- Hooded dryer
After I style my wash n go I aways sit under my hooded dryer. This is definitely a must have hair tool if you don’t get anything else. The dryer helps set the style and reduces frizz. Also you don’t have to wait forever for your hair to dry. Here is the one I use but any hooded dryer should work…Gold N Hot Professional 1875W Ionic Stand Bonnet Dryer

- Bobby pins
Yes we all probably buy bobby pins every time we are in a store LOL. We need the Big and small ones, sometimes we might need to pin some hair to switch up a style. I know I’m not the only one. Bobby pins can be purchased at any beauty supply store, amazon, Walmart or anywhere with a hair aisle.

- Hair Ties / Scrunchies
These are must haves, although I don’t have much use for them since I got my hair cut. I do still use them on my daughter’s Natural hair. Good to keep them around for puffs and ponytails. Great for switching up a look or just to keep hair out of your face. My daughter is a dancer so we use them every day for her ponytails and buns.

- Silk or Satin bonnet/ scarf
Me personally I use both, Extra I know, I know….I tie my hair down with my scarf and then put my bonnet on top. I wear them to bed every night, no matter if it’s time to wash my hair or not. Sleeping in silk or satin helps preserve your style and healthy hair. The Bonnets and scarves I use are from glowbydaye.com, they last a long time and do not slip off. I have Been using them for a couple years and I love them. You can also purchase great bonnets on amazon, beauty supply stores, Walmart, target etc. I usually go for the bonnets with a drawstring.

- Silk or Satin pillowcase
I use this too LoL. I purchased 4 so that I always have a clean one to sleep on. This is necessary to have in case your bonnet and scarf decides to come off or you may fall asleep without your bonnet (by mistake of course). Sleeping on satin pillowcase I feel is also good for not drying out your skin. The ones I purchased are on amazon: Bedsure Satin Pillowcase

- Hair clips
Hair Clips are good for sectioning hair while conditioning and styling. I don’t use them while shampooing but they are a must have for conditioning and styling. I like to use the gator clips because they are easy to section off hair with. The ones I use do not snag or pull the hair. These are the ones: Framar Gator Grips hair clips

- A Natural hair stylist/ curl artist
Not a hair tool but….
I talked about this in my post “My Natural hair journey” Finding a Natural Hair stylist changed my hair life for the better! I go every 3 months since November 2020 to get my maintenance cuts/ trims and to also have her style my hair. We all need a break every now and then right? Make sure to do your research when deciding on a stylist. IG is the most efficient place to find one. The stylist I use is @earnestlynatural on IG. She definitely changed the way I see my hair for the better!
